Matt Simons – With you Lyrics
[Verse 1:]

[Verse 1:]
Honest where I start from
I try and impart my wisdom
A combination of truth and fear
That’s the way it’s always been
My father and his before him
At times we hurt the …
[Verse 1]
Oh, pity me
I’m so alone and so blue
My friends have all gone away
Their friendliness too
[Pre-Chorus]
It was I on my own
With no need to belong
And I wanted to die
That’s when …
[Verse 1]
Got some money, got some cash
I’m rich and now I’m sad
And I wonder if I’m sad about the money that I have
Got some boats on my plane
At the hotel …
[Intro]
Yeah
Polishin’ a goddamn sword, you know what I’m sayin’?
Polishin’ a sword (Uh, uh, uh, uh)
Concrete Family, Concrete Industries, Concrete Boys up, always, never down
(And this beat from Cash, not from …
When the only sound in the empty street
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop
When the moon so long has been gazing down

Here’s a man who’s done it all1
He takes a bath and he takes a fall
But you know he wants to take you home2
And here’s a man with a lust for life3
He lives for now on the edge of a knife4
And you know he doesn’t like to be cut5
Yeah, you know he will never keep his eyes shut6
Here’s a man who walks alone7
He takes a bow then he takes you home8
But you should know that you will never in him out
John the Baptist in his youth9
He’s gonna wanna know the dirty truth10
Oh yeah, what’s revealed in the end
The best day along with your best friend11
“A man who’s done it all” can be defined as a man who has had many life experiences and has discovered success.
Thurston Moore is really saying that the man who has a lot of life experience has become confident in himself. This confidence has fueled his sexual life as well.
“A lust for life” means a craving for more and more exciting experiences.
To “live on the edge of a knife” means to live life with strong emotions. It means seeking adrenaline so often that one begins to basically live life in a suicidal way, always tempting fate.
Despite enjoying life’s thrill, the man doesn’t want to be hurt.
Thurston Moore describes a man who is always focused on the big things in life. He isn’t distracted by trivial things even for a second.
Thurston Moore contrasts the man from the first stanza with another man who is more of a loner. He lives life more internally than externally.
In contrast to the man of the first stanza, this second man is more chivalrous. He treats women well and appreciates them, rather than using them selfishly.
John the Baptist is historically known to be a cousin-brother to Jesus of Nazareth. He was known to be a wild man who ventured into the wilderness, survived from eat locusts, and shamelessly confronted oppressive elites. He is quite a wild mystic, so Thurston Moore gives this second character a wild side, even though he is introverted on the surface.
Thurston Moore means to say that those who do not live life selfishly are more careful in assessing reality and detected whether someone is lying.
Thurston Moore concludes the song by recognizing these two contrasted men as close friends despite their personality differences. One might assume that these lyrics are about Thurston Moore and a close friend.
