Maisie Peters – John Hughes Movie Lyrics
[Verse 1]
This wasn’t how it’s supposed to go
I should be the one you’re dancing with
Spinning with a vodka coke
Everybody at my fingertips
I was gonna get my coat
And baby you were …
[Verse 1]
This wasn’t how it’s supposed to go
I should be the one you’re dancing with
Spinning with a vodka coke
Everybody at my fingertips
I was gonna get my coat
And baby you were …
[Intro: Greg Gonzalez]
We wanna go where the girls are young and dumb
And hot as fuck
Where they’re dancing in the streets
With nothing on
[Verse 1: Goody Grace]
Drivin’ all night, lost track of …
[Verse 1]
One more night, I’ma break down
Two more drinks ’til I pass out, baby
3 AM’s when I need her
Before this lonely, and it drives me crazy
[Pre-Chorus]
Strike a match, blow a …
[Verse 1]
Beat myself until I’m bloody
And I’ll give you a ringside seat
Say that it’s embarrassing
I’m sorry that you had to see me like that
[Verse 2]
So you could either watch me drown
Or try to save …
[Verse 1]
Passed out in the back of a cab
Could you pull over? I think that I’m trapped
Caught underwater, I beat on the glass
Gnawing my arm at the shoulder
Would you help …
Your man on the road, he doing promo1
You said keep our business on the low-low2
I’m just tryna get you out the friend-zone3
Cause you look even better than the photos4
I can’t find your house, send me the info5
Driving through the gated residential6
Found out I was coming, sent your friends home
Keep on tryna hide it but your friends know7
I only call you when it’s half past, five
The only time that I’ll be by, your, side8
I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me9
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me, yeah
I only call you when it’s half-past, five
The only time I’d ever call you mine10
I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me, babe
I’ma let you know and keep it simple
Tryna keep it up, don’t seem so simple11
I just fucked two bitches ‘fore I saw you
You gon’ have to do it at my tempo12
Always tryna send me off to rehab
Drugs start to feel like it’s decaf13
I’m just tryna live life for the moment
And all these motherfuckers want a relapse14
I only call you when it’s half past, five
The only time that I’ll be by, your, side
I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me, yeah
I only call you when it’s half-past, five
The only time I’d ever call you mine
I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me, babe
Hills have eyes, the hills have eyes15
Who are you to judge, who are you to judge?16
Hide your lies, girl hide your lies
Who are you to trust, who are you?17
I only call you when it’s half past, five
The only time that I’ll be by, your, side
I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me, yeah
I only call you when it’s half-past, five
The only time I’d ever call you mine
I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me, babe18

This is the most amazing track of the year. I am absolutely mesmerized by the lyrics and beat. Maybe this is a conscience epiphany of his particular selfishness and darkness. Unapologetic for this side of himself. So many people are dishonest with themselves, and are distorted inside. But he is clear in such a powerful way about his feelings, even if they are not so savory. The honesty and cold artistry is what counts. I personally never learned to be good, without getting absolutely clear about my bad side. I feel we can’t change unless we are honest about are dark side. I’m not saying this is who he is entirely because I believe as people we are layered beings. He just lets it out, and who is to judge how he feels? He makes it clear he does not give a f*ck what people think. And if others look closer at themselves maybe you’ll see a bit of this track inside of you. “The Hills have eyes” may be someone or entity in the hills, at the end, is looking over all. Kind of like “The Great Gatsby” The Eyes on the billboard are watching all no matter how neurotic and F;d up people can be, as these eyes see’s all truth despite what people hide. In this case, the Hills, the security guard, the neighbors , the friends are watching, keeping him a secret, or judging him, maybe wanting him or not wanting him to belong in the area …….Whatever……But everyone is watching and judging secretly or not secretly….

This song is about Ariana Grande. She was with her boyfriend at the time and he was “On the road doing promo” the car crash is another stab at her because she had a wreck on the way to see her rapper boyfriend in his “gated residential”. She was having an affair with Abel Tesfaye and this was his way of letting that all be known indiscreetly but creatively so. He uses drugs 24/7 so the only time he is really himself now is when he’s under the influence. Half past five is referring to “five o’clock somewhere” by Alan Jackson, meaning that he calls & texts her pretty well any time he wants to.
