[Verse 1]
You said, “Speak from your mind
The words that it finds
Come out of your soul, a part of the whole”
You said, “What does it change?
Both of us know
After tonight, there …
[TONY]
Maria…
The most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard:
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria…
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word:
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria…
Maria, Maria…
Maria!
I’ve just met a girl named Maria
And …
[Verse 1]
What happens in dreams where we fly?
Never been as high as tonight
Staring through a window in time
For someone to show me what I’m like
He said, “Hello”, it’s like a …
[Verse 1]
Oh-oh-oh, every little smile hides a little lie
Could cut the silence with a knife
Subatomic bliss is nothing left to miss
It’s just empty Russian roulette
[Pre-Chorus]
Try to brush it off my …
You only love me for my big sun glasses
And my Tony Lamas1
And my Dodge Dart classic2
You said “I’ll be Johhny and you be June3
And I’ll ride with you to the moon”4
But guess what?
You can’t ride in my little red wagon
The front seat’s broken and the axel’s dragin’
You can’t step to this backyard swagger5
You know it ain’t my fault when I’m walkin’ jaws droppin’ like
Ooh, ah, ooh, ah6
Oh, heaven help me
I’ve been sowing wildflower seeds
And chasing tumble weeds7
But that’s just who I be8
And you’re just trying to slow this rolling stone9
But I’m on to you baby
So guess what?
You can’t ride in my little red wagon
The front seat’s broken and the axel’s dragin’
No you can’t step to this backyard swagger
You know it ain’t my fault when I’m walkin’ jaws droppin’ like
Ooh, ah, ooh, ah
Oh, you only love me for my big sun glasses
And my Tony Lamas
I live in Oklahoma
And I’ve got long, blonde hair
And I play guitar, and I go on the road
And I do all the shit you wanna do10
And my dog does tricks
And I ain’t about drama, ya’ll
I love my apron
But I ain’t your mama!11
So guess what?
You can’t ride in my little red wagon
The front seat’s broken and the axel’s dragin’
No you can’t step to this backyard swagger
You know it ain’t my fault when I’m walkin’ jaws droppin’ like
Ooh, ahh, ooh, ahh, ooh yeah, ooh ha12

It amazes me how many people interpret the lyrics in reference to how Miranda feels. She didn’t write the song, nor was she the first one to record it. Miranda liked the song and asked the songwriter if she could record it. Go to youtube and listen to Audra Mae’s version – the original version.
PS – The original lyrics stated “long RED hair.”
