Matt Simons – With you Lyrics
[Verse 1:]
Honest where I start from
I try and impart my wisdom
A combination of truth and fear
That’s the way it’s always been

[Verse 1:]
Honest where I start from
I try and impart my wisdom
A combination of truth and fear
That’s the way it’s always been
My father and his before him
At times we hurt the …
[Verse 1]
Oh, pity me
I’m so alone and so blue
My friends have all gone away
Their friendliness too
[Pre-Chorus]
It was I on my own
With no need to belong
And I wanted to die
That’s when …
[Verse 1]
Got some money, got some cash
I’m rich and now I’m sad
And I wonder if I’m sad about the money that I have
Got some boats on my plane
At the hotel …
[Intro]
Yeah
Polishin’ a goddamn sword, you know what I’m sayin’?
Polishin’ a sword (Uh, uh, uh, uh)
Concrete Family, Concrete Industries, Concrete Boys up, always, never down
(And this beat from Cash, not from …
When the only sound in the empty street
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop
When the moon so long has been gazing down
On …
What?
Behave yourself
Behave yourself
You need to behave yourself, boy
Yeah, she’s built for speed like a black castrum doloris1
Good for the needy, like Nietzsche, Freud and Horace2
But I’m skin, flint, broke, making no money, making jokes
But baby, I won’t joke with you3
My feet are burning like a Roman hypocaust4
But the Romans are gone, they changed their name because they lost5
She writes letters like a Jack Chick comic6
Just a bunch of propaganda,7 make my fingers histrionic; like this, and this
I mean, she’s my baby
But she makes me get avuncular8
And when my monkey is jumping
I got no time for making up for her9
I fantasize about the hospital
The army, asylum, confinement, in prison
Any place where there’s a time to clear my vision10
I spit it out
Whatever’s in my mouth
Just like that Black Bat Licorice
Yeah, that Black Bat Licorice
That Black Bat Licorice
That Black Bat Licorice11
Yeah
I wanna cut out my tongue and let you hold onto it for me
Cause without my skull to amplify my sounds it might get boring12
I’ve got the wit of the stickers with atomic clock precision
And the phases of the moon directing all of my decisions like this13
Women need to know, I play dumb like Columbo14
And get my feelings hurt and move to NY like I’m Dumbo15
Don’t you want to lose the part of the brain that has opinions?16
To not even know what you are doing, or care about yourself or your species in the billions17
Yeah, I have to spit it out
Oh, whatever’s in my mouth
I have to spit it out (behave your self)
Just like that Black Bat Licorice
That Black Bat Licorice
That Black Bat Licorice, I never liked it, I never will
Now state the same damn thing with the violin18
Whatever you feed me
I feed you right back
But it will do no good19
“Built for speed like a…doloris” means that the girl has a beautiful figure.
Jack White references several philosophers and relates their philosophies to the girl’s body (something that’s good for needy – that is, horny – men).
Jack White claims he doesn’t have much to offer, but his interest in this girl is serious.
A Roman hypocaust is an ancient form of heating a house from the floor.
The Roman empire crumbled, so to save face, they underwent a name change.
Jack Chick wrote a lot of offensive religious literature, so Jack White is saying this girl’s letters are full of ignorant hate speech.
The propaganda in this context is the girl’s lies.
Somebody who is “avuncular” is someone who is too old for his scene, playing an “uncle-ish” kind of social role.
Jack White says when he’s horny, he doesn’t want to waste his time trying to maintain her public image.
Jack White likes this girl for her body, but he also needs a break from her anywhere he can find it.
Black licorice has a notoriously nasty taste. Jack White brings this generally agreed-upon idea into his song to articulate how even though he wants to be with this girl physically, he has to “spit her out” for other reasons.
Jack White is trying to say that his own thoughts are more stimulating than the beautiful girl’s words.
Jack White simply feels as though he is above this girl in terms of intelligence, etc., but his physical attraction to her keeps him around.
Jack White tries to lower himself to the woman’s level.
That is, Dumbo the elephant.
Jack White accuses the girl of being stupid.
“Your species in the billions” is a reference to humanity.
Jack White puts violins, Black Licorice, and stupid girls into the same category. These are all things he can do without. He knows he shouldn’t be tempted by them.
Jack White doesn’t see any hope in trying to improve this girl’s mind, so he resigns himself to the idea of it.
