Matt Simons – With you Lyrics
[Verse 1:]
Honest where I start from
I try and impart my wisdom
A combination of truth and fear

[Verse 1:]
Honest where I start from
I try and impart my wisdom
A combination of truth and fear
That’s the way it’s always been
My father and his before him
At times we hurt the …
[Verse 1]
Oh, pity me
I’m so alone and so blue
My friends have all gone away
Their friendliness too
[Pre-Chorus]
It was I on my own
With no need to belong
And I wanted to die
That’s when …
[Verse 1]
Got some money, got some cash
I’m rich and now I’m sad
And I wonder if I’m sad about the money that I have
Got some boats on my plane
At the hotel …
[Intro]
Yeah
Polishin’ a goddamn sword, you know what I’m sayin’?
Polishin’ a sword (Uh, uh, uh, uh)
Concrete Family, Concrete Industries, Concrete Boys up, always, never down
(And this beat from Cash, not from …
When the only sound in the empty street
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop
When the moon so long has been gazing down
On …
I was on a heavy tip
Tryna cross a canyon with a broken limb1
You were on the other side2
Like always, wondering what to do with life3
I already had a sip
So I’d reasoned I was drunk enough to deal with it4
You were on the other side
Like always, you could never make your mind5
And with one kiss
You inspired a fire of devotion6
That lasted twenty years
What kind of man loves like this7
To let me dangle at a cruel angle
Oh my feet don’t touch the floor8
Sometimes you’re half in and then you’re half out
But you never close the door9
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man10
You’re a holy fool all coloured blue
Red feet upon the floor11
You do such damage, how do you manage?
Tryna crawl in back for more12
And with one kiss
You inspired a fire of devotion
That lasted twenty years
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man
But I can’t beat you
Cause I’m still with you
Oh mercy I implore13
How do you do it
I think I’m through it
Then I’m back against the wall14
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man
What kind of man loves like this
What kind of man15
The canyon, broken limb, and “heavy tip” are all metaphors for the difficulties encountered in developing a romance with a specific man.
“You were on the other side” means that Florence Welch wasn’t connecting with her lover very easily.
Florence Welch puts the blame on her beloved for their struggling romance. She accuses him of being unfocused and unsure of himself.
This reference to alcoholism isn’t necessarily literal. Florence Welch is referring to the bad habits people perform to preserve a relationship that might not be worthy of preserving.
Another accusation of the man’s lack of focus is put forth.
Romantic intimacy overtook what should have been rational decision-making as Florence Welch was emotionally seduced into a long-term relationship.
When singing “what kind of man loves like this,” Florence Welch is asking how someone can be happy preying upon her emotions to sustain their relationship.
In other words, the man exerts his power over Florence through devious manipulation.
The man is half-committed to the relationship, but even though he is not fully engaged in it, he never dissolves the relationship either. This usually leads to an unhealthy romance.
Florence Welch is essentially asking how a man can possibly enjoy himself when he is taking advantage of another human being.
By calling the man multi-colored, Florence Welch is stating that he is not straightforward. He can’t be trusted.
One would think that there would be limits to one’s enjoyment as he takes advantage of a woman.
Florence Welch begs for the strength to overcome her unhealthy romance.
Just when she thinks she finally has made an escape from her unhealthy romance, Florence Welch finds herself engaged in that romance once again.
This song is about questioning one’s self and one’s beloved when engaged in an unhealthy relationship.
