She keep a Glock in her bag, she think …
[Part I]
[Intro: Future]
Drop your location, she think she me or sum’ (Hendrix)
Put on my chains, now she think she me or sum’
She keep a Glock in her bag, she think …
[Verse 1]
You said, “Speak from your mind
The words that it finds
Come out of your soul, a part of the whole”
You said, “What does it change?
Both of us know
After tonight, there …
[TONY]
Maria…
The most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard:
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria…
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word:
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria…
Maria, Maria…
Maria!
I’ve just met a girl named Maria
And …
[Verse 1]
What happens in dreams where we fly?
Never been as high as tonight
Staring through a window in time
For someone to show me what I’m like
He said, “Hello”, it’s like a …
[Verse 1]
Oh-oh-oh, every little smile hides a little lie
Could cut the silence with a knife
Subatomic bliss is nothing left to miss
It’s just empty Russian roulette
[Pre-Chorus]
Try to brush it off my …
As dark night embraces1
We are the nation
I will cleanse all your thoughts2
We will cleanse them all
Now, my children
For the sake of our nation
Let us carry on3
In glory
When dark night embraces
We are the nation
Be my fellowmen
We will wipe them out4
Let there be light
For the sake of our nation5
Precious and bright
When dark night embraces my mind6
A twisted plan
After all
Despite all burden
Life has grown
And though the curse is still alive7
File 664
The golden age’s vanished and more8
The ingenious knight knows it’s over9
He no longer denies there’s a real me
He’ll be disgraced
Burnt and sealed
They may end
As we will rule the world10
Defeat the dying old Crow11
Let this fire burn12
Sail on till you reach the promised land
We all drown in the fifth dimension
The ninth wave13
I can feel it’s coming
The ninth wave
Sail on till you reach the promised land
We all wait for a new tomorrow
We’ll bring a new age14
Along with the final wave
The final wave
We will rise15
Burn them all, bring the damned
There’s a price to pay16
Burn them all, bring the damned
Do as I command17
Our praise and triumph will grow
We’ll defy the Nine
Delete the dying old Crow18
To Muriel’s fire, walk with me
Down to the Abaddon19
Will you walk with me to the Sheol?20
Good or bad we all meet the Abaddon
Take a look and you see it’s all the same21
Imaginations
Exterminate them
Imaginations
Exterminate them22
An evil revelation
A wicked thought
Denied by their savior
They all prayed for
Salvation23
There are no gods
So no one can save them24
Until
They will redeem Belial25
They will unite them all
Then many men will fall
When they will heed the call
So they’ll be free
Before the final curtain falls26
Belial
Bring the cursed
Bring the damned
As we will rule the world
They’ll seek the dying old Crow
Let this fire burn27
Sail on till you reach the promised land
We all drown in the fifth dimension
The ninth wave
I can feel it’s coming
The ninth wave
Sail on till you reach the promised land
We all wait for a new tomorrow
We’ll bring a new age
Reborn as aeon gods28
As aeon gods
We’ll break through
Further down you’ll walk with me
Down to seal Avalon
Will you walk with me to the fire?29
Further down we come to seal Avalon
Take a look and you see it’s all the same
Imaginations
Exterminate them
Imaginations
Exterminate them
There is no real salvation
We will wipe them out
And nothing remains here30
As we don’t need salvation
We will not fade
Forever we’ll stay here31
Screams come from the inside
The king is gone, but
This war is not over32
Burnt and sealed they may end
As we will rule the world
Delete the dying old Crow
Let this fire burn
Sail on till you reach the promised land
We all drown in the fifth dimension
The ninth wave
I can feel it’s coming
The ninth wave
Sail on till you reach the promised land
We all wait for a new tomorrow
We’ll bring a new age
Reborn as aeon gods
As aeon gods
We’ll break through33
Hansi Kürsch, lead singer of Blind Guardian, depicts the scene of “The Ninth Wave” as a dark, eerie, and evil environment.
Hansi Kürsch refers here to ideology begotten of state propaganda. Political entities such as nation-states often subtly coerce their societies into accepting them as purely good through the use of predatory marketing techniques. That is what Blind Guardian means by “cleanse your thoughts.”
Again Blind Guardian lashes out against predatory nationalism, a type of patriotism that encourages terrible actions in pursuit of a common good.
Blind Guardian sings from the perspective of political leaders infusing ideology in their constituents. “We will wipe them out” is reminiscent of the Third Reich, a historical event in Blind Guardian’s native Germany that resulted in the execution of many Jews and other socially ostracized people.
The “light” leading the nation is actually darkness disguised as light. Charismatic speeches have the capacity to seduce masses of people into accepting evil as good.
Blind Guardian draws a correlation between community psychology and the social ills that stem from ideology.
Blind Guardian reveals that the exploitation of a nation’s people is deliberate.
“The golden age’s vanished and more” means that there is no more hope. Poverty will now become the norm.
“The ingenious knight knows it’s over” means that those who have maintained a certain level of skepticism toward the state’s propaganda are now keenly aware that they no longer have hope.
Blind Guardian sings from the perspective of a small group of people eager to take over the world.
“The dying old Crow” is a empire that has collapsed.
A new, evil empire is announcing its arrival.
The new empire, greedily preying on its people, announces that it is the life-blood of everybody so that people willingly succumb to its wrath.
An evil empire gains public support by convincing people that it will bring them prosperity.
The empire causes people to believe they are agents of positive change while simultaneously supporting them for the gain of an elite few.
Blind Guardian reveals that no evil empire thrives without the sacrifice of its people.
“Do as I command” reveals that people in power believe they can boss others around.
Blind Guardian sings of a new age of a new empire.
Abaddon is an allusion to a biblical place known for destruction.
“Sheol” is a Jewish concept of a dark underworld found in the Hebrew scriptures. While not synonymous for hell, it carries hell-like connotations.
Blind Guardian says that everyone’s destiny is the same: destruction.
The new, evil empire should single-handedly dictate what people’s dreams and aspirations.
Human beings have the desire to feel liberated from their suffering.
Blind Guardian believes divine intervention can never occur.
Belial is a term for Satan.
Before the end of time, people will only feel free if they’ve chosen the side of evil.
Evil is stronger than good and will eventually take over the world, according to Blind Guardian.
Praise of evil is often combined with the sense that human beings can achieve deification.
Blind Guardian invites people everywhere to embrace the idea of an empire that reigns through evil.
Blind Guardian has a fatalistic view of time, believing everything good will eventually be wiped away.
Blind Guardian believes that the way to cope with evil is to embrace it as one’s own ideal.
This stanza figuratively describes the end of an empire that ruled with sound values, introducing a new empire that rules through violence and power.
Blind Guardian sings this song about a coming age during which evil will reign.

Although this song may seem like an analogy to the Third Reich or another dictatorship, it’s actually the prologue of the story of the Nine, which is told during the whole album. The Nine, as Hansi himself said in an interview, are a almost infinitely powerful race, trapped in the space between dimensions. The Red Mirror, from which comes the name of the album, is the only escape for them, and they need their savior, who is out of the Red Mirror, to find it and break its seal.

#9 “the ingenious knight” is also a reference to Cervantes’ Don Quixote and his book, “The Ingenious Nobleman Sir Quixote of La Mancha” [pub. 1605]. Nobility and Honor, qualities typically associated with a knight, are in peril.
